Play Blocksmith's 2023 Hour of Code Game

What is A.I. Rescue?

It is Blocksmith's 2023 Hour of Code game, and teaches the basics of artificial intelligence (A.I.) and neural nets!

Reach the A.I. Quiz!

ChatGPT is used in the final level to create a random quiz question based on the player's choice of difficulty and quiz topic, and also evaluates the generated question to produce an answer it thinks is correct. Do you have what it takes to compete against the A.I.?

Find A.I. Rescue on code.org

  1. Go to https://hourofcode.com/us/learn

  2. Select the Created by menu in the left panel.

  3. In the Created by menu, select Blocksmith, Inc.

  4. Select A.I. Rescue and then click the yellow Start button.

Controls

Use the WASD or Arrow keys to move around each level. Look around the levels to find test switches or hidden power ups by moving the mouse pointer. Reach hard to access artificial neurons by pressing the Spacebar to jump across platforms. Pick up objects like training datasets by clicking on them. Pause the game at any time by pressing the Esc key.

More Info

Discover the fundamental concepts of A.I. as you control a robot to restore a spaceship's A.I. This includes rebuilding the neural net, retraining it on specific datasets, and then testing the A.I. through a randomly-generated quiz. Make sure your volume is turned up too, since the A.I. instructs the player how it works with generated voiceovers in each level!

The game starts with a malfunction in your spaceship's A.I. which operates the hyperdrive. As one of the robotic crew, you need to rescue the A.I. and human crew by collecting lost artificial neurons belonging to the A.I. across several levels. Once found, you need to retrain several of the artificial neurons with correct, language-based, training data. Lastly, you need to test if the A.I. has been trained by generating a random-quiz question and answering to the best of your abilities, in competition with the A.I. itself!

As an educator, encourage students to discuss how a neural net operates, or was used to create or plan different parts of the game. This could include having them plan their own games that could be made with the assistance of A.I. But most importantly enjoy an hour of unheard of A.I. learning fun in your classroom as students chase for new high-scores.
